OUT OF THE COLD event 20.02.2016

Homeless_Dinner.2

Out of the Cold was an initiative started at St. Andrew’s Jarvis St. location to assist those that were less fortunate. This program gave our congregation the opportunity to give back to the community and further our Christian mission. We had a number of successful years of providing this service.  Not only did we give back but also involved many younger members of the congregation in a program that allowed them to experience how less fortunate folks live and at the same time instill a sense of what our role is in respect to others.

In an effort to try to rekindle this spirit of giving and generosity we are starting this initiative after a 1 year sabbatical.  Old St. Andrew’s at Jarvis St. is located in a neighbourhood where some of the neediest Torontonians live.  Since our move to Forest Hill we are surrounded by mansions, richness and abundance. It is easy to forget our less fortunate people in such an environment. Also we would not be able to easily work the logistics out of the St. John’s location as we did from Jarvis St.

As a result Mac. Ilze reached out to First Lutheran Church located on Bond St. (our congregation’s first home!) to see if we could use their space and partner with them in this initiative. They were delighted to welcome St. Andrew’s members in this initiative.  We look forward to kick starting this once again.
